I can do this!

17 01 2008

A lot of people make New Year resolutions and they don’t stick to them. I’ll admit, I’ve done the same thing many times. But this time I’m determined and serious about this years resolutions!

I resolved to quit smoking; I quit smoking 11 Days, 18 Hours and 26 Minutes ago and I will not smoke again…ever! It’s been easy except the first two days when I was having withdrawal. Now it’s no problem. I still get the occasional craving but it’s nothing I can’t handle. I usually just brush the crave aside and think of something else.

My next resolution was to start eating healthy. My wife and I have both been eating healthy since January 1st. We cut out almost ALL junk food, eat only lower fat foods, and started eating tons of fruit and drinking lots of water. We also cut our calorie intake by about half. We’ve had to learn portion control to do that.
It was hard at first but I’m growing quite used to eating healthy. Donna makes some really excellent healthy meals that she gets from Sparkpeople. I’ve made a couple low fat dinners that were good too.
I did crave junk food for several days after the food change. Donuts especially! But the crave for donuts has finally gone away. You know what I crave now instead? Fruit! I’ve replaced my crave for donuts for a fruit craving!
I’m not ever hungry either. This isn’t a diet where I’m always hungry. This is more of a lifestyle change. It’s not something temporary; it’s something I need to get used to. And I’m quickly growing used to it. We still eat good food and I still eat when I’m hungry. I just don’t eat more than I should and I don’t eat huge meals or food full of unnecessary fat and calories.

My third resolution is to lose weight and get back in shape. I have lost a few pounds already but that is due to the change in eating habits. I haven’t really got much exercise yet.
I have been a little more active around the house and have done some regular exercises, such as push ups, crunches, etc., but I haven’t got a good, intense cardio workout like I really want.
We will be getting a treadmill soon and that is when I will start my daily cardio workouts and that’s when I will start to really burn the fat. I can’t wait!
I’m going to build myself up to become a runner. That is something I thought was never possible. But I’m going to MAKE it possible. Just you wait and see.

I didn’t think any of this would be possible for me. I didn’t think I’d ever be able to quit smoking, but I did! I thought I was addicted to those damn cigarettes for good.
I didn’t think I’d ever be eating healthy again… but I am! I thought I’d be eating those damn donuts forever!
I didn’t think I’d ever get back in shape, but I will be! I thought I’d be sitting my fat, lazy ass on the couch forever!

All it took was for my wife to ask me if I’d be interested in going on a diet with her. At first I said no, but then I told her I would if we could get some type of exercise equipment..and we will be soon. So thanks to my wife, I’m making the impossible possible. I can do this!

I’ve made a new page on my blog which you can access above. It’s called “From fat to Fit!”. There I will keep track of my weight loss progress and you can follow along with me. I gotta warn ya though, if man boobs, body hair, or fat guys make you nauseous then don’t go there :P

I see you’re dead serious about your resolutions, that deserves a lot of respect!

Just like you, I haven’t smoked still, but unlike you, I’m trying to eat more to get back in shape, already gained 3kg. =]

Congratulations. I quit a little over a year ago finally. To celebrate my first year of non smoking, I hiked one of the most notorious hiking trails in Vancouver. The sense of accomplishment at the top was well worth it.

Like you, I’m also trying to eat healthy and get back into shape. To that extent, I bought a rowing machine for a full cardio workout. I certainly feel the benefits after I’ve used it.

Good luck and keep up the good work!

Hey Josh, You are on your way now. I know that what you are doing will be hard at times. Remember, there is nothing wrong with falling down. We all mess up now and then. Not getting back up and dusting yourself off is the problem. Take it day by day. Every day is a new day to start again!

You are an inspiration. I will be watching your success! I wrote a couple of entries in my blog on losing weight and getting fit. I hope you can find something to help and inspire you towards your goals. Click on the following links:
